When you are first learning to draw a lizard, it can be difficult to figure out how to begin. The best way to go about this is to break your drawing down into step by step easy to follow steps. The first thing that you need to do when drawing a lizard is decide what form your lizard will take. Once you have chosen your form, you can move onto the body of your new friend. This is usually the easiest part of drawing a lizard.
After you have decided on the body of your lizard drawing all the fur is the next step to consider. The best way to draw all the fur on its own is to make a mock up, in other words draw the fur first then put it on your lizard. Use a white cloth so you can easily see all the little hairs. Once you have done this you can start to draw all of the scales that will come with your new friend.
The next step in lizard drawing involves a simple exercise in drawing the shape of the head. To do this you will need to cut out some circles on your paper. You should use a very small circle for this step as if you draw too large a circle you will not end up with a head that looks normal. Next you should draw two straight lines that go from one side of the head to the other. These lines will be the top and bottom of the head.
Next you should draw the two sides of the face. Start with the lower jaw and continue working your way up to the eyes. Keep your sketches very simple. You can always add more details later on, once you are comfortable with your lizard drawing. The last step in this step is to draw the nasal openings and finally the lips of your lizard.
The next thing that you need to do is draw the lizard’s forelegs. Start by drawing the spine of the lizard and then draw a thin line along its entire length. Once you have finished your first foreleg, you should go back and add the second leg. Keep in mind that you should not add the same color to both legs. Instead, you should draw in the first leg and the second leg separately and then attach them to a single straight line.
After you have completed all the major organs of the lizard, you will need to focus on three core areas. The first thing you should do is draw the right hind leg. Start by drawing a nice curved line that goes from about one inch from the end of the right hind leg to the tip of the tail. Once you have done this, you should continue to draw a thin line from about one inch from the end of the left hind leg to the tip of the tail.
The next thing you should do is draw the left leg. Start by drawing a nice curved line going from just behind the lizard’s knees to its chest. Once you have drawn this line, you should continue to draw a thin line going from about one inch inside the leg to the tip of the tail. Keep in mind that you should not add any color to these lines. Instead, you should simply use black and white strokes to outline the leg.
The last step is to complete the upper body. For the most part, you will simply want to start by drawing a horizontal line going down the center of the animal. Once you have drawn this line, you should continue with a vertical line to the side and another horizontal line to the bottom. From here, you should continue to draw various parts of the body including the face and the snout. By the end of this particular step you should have drawn the head and all of its features.
