Reptile Hides

Reptile Hides – A Great Way to Protect Your New Pet

Reptile hides are not as hard to look for as one would think. All they need is a proper enclosure and some substrate and they are all set. Reptile hides are not very difficult to look for, but the Iguana hides in particular are a bit of a challenge. I have had a few attempts at finding hides and while the first two were successful, the last one almost came up dry.

The reason that I didn’t quite make it work is that they are rather large pieces of plastic with tiny little pieces of Styrofoam. They are also not very thick. You cannot simply stick a regular sheet of vivarium liner into these re-purposed reptile hides. It will not fit, and if you try to stuff something too thick in there, it will just rise up off the ground. The good news, however, is that I recently came across an ingenious way to solve this problem. I will share that information with you in a minute.

First of all, there are two different ways to hide a hide. You can buy or make a hide to begin with. Now, I have seen a few people who make their own reptile hides. These are, of course, quite expensive, but some of them can be made with materials that are not too expensive, like old milk jugs or food containers. In any case, reptiles like to live in natural habitats so they tend to like the look of whatever is naturally there. So, hiding something with out some type of natural substrate just doesn’t make sense.

Luckily, we do have some of nature’s best reptile hides to hide in. There are plenty of stores that sell organic material as substrate. It will not only give your hide a better look, it will also help you find what you are looking for because it will be similar in size. Some of the better options available for re-purposed hide include shells from various freshwater environments, wood shavings, and small pieces of soft animal fur.

If you don’t have access to any of these materials, you could always make your own with things you can purchase at a pet store. I did not have any wood shavings or shell material when I was starting out so I had to look to other sources. My research lead me to a great site that had some really good information about where to purchase natural hides. One of the best parts was that they offered a variety of options available.

The next option that is available is a combination cage and vivarium shelving. This is the perfect solution for those who do not want to have to purchase all of those materials. Not only does it save space, but you can also buy all of the natural reptile hides that you need for your new pet. The shelving is very versatile and comes in a variety of sizes, allowing you to put the hide in different locations throughout the cage.

Another option that you have is to purchase the best reptile hides and use them as a decoration within the vivarium. There are many different vivarium accessories available that contain the best moulded hides. They are very easy to place on the bottom of the tank and have a very natural look. This is another option that can be used if you do not have access to the materials that I mentioned above.

All of these options are great for putting into your new home or starting a new species of animal. You can choose the hide that is best for you and your new pet. You can purchase a pre-molded hide or create your own by using the materials from around your house. You will find that the Reptile Hides that you find are very durable and very well made. Many of the hides contain small items for your new pet to play with and like, which is great for keeping them active.
