The Lizard Fish or Diploptera is a benthic or oceanic bony marine fish and belongs to the subfamily Algaritidae or scaly fishes. They are usually found in warm and tropical marine waters all over the world except in the Southern Ocean. They feed on small crustaceans, fish, shrimps, crabs, snails and other crustaceans. They have long beaks and sharp teeth, which help them grab and kill their prey.
The most common kind of this genus is the Cretolene variety, which can grow up to 10 inches in length. Although it is not easy to determine the exact color of these creatures, you can observe that they are usually green or gray in color, with various shades of pattern on their bodies. Some species of the genus are patterned with reddish or orange coloration on their skin.
Although they are small in size, this species of lizard fish are capable of inflicting serious damages on their victims with just one bite. Their great ability to regenerate means that they can quickly heal after a wound infection. However, their body has evolved to cope with such wounds as the wounds of a predator rather than with those of their prey. This means that even though a crocodile fish or small ungulates like frogs and newts can easily heal an injury from a lizard fish, the same can’t be said about their friends.
Because of their great adaptability and their ability to regenerate, lizard fish are generally well-known for being generally harmless in freshwater waters. However, they can become aggressive if provoked. Their diet is generally composed of small crustaceans, although omnivorous fish are also known to feed on them. The average length of these creatures is around one and a half feet, although this can vary from one species to another. Some specimens reach a length of three feet.
In relation to other marine reptiles, lizard fish belong to the synodontidae family of reptiles. This means that they belong to an entire class of reptiles, unlike most of the other known species of reptiles which belong to different genera or classes. The word’synodontids’ derives from the Greek word’Synograea’ and ‘taxidermy’. This group of reptiles is divided into four subclades – Irritants, Scales, caustics and chromis. All these differ in the way they function.
In order for an animal to belong to this sub-clade of reptiles, it must have a complete set of paired scales, with the exception of the pedal ungulates, which are joined in the spinal joint by a set of paired scales called interlocking scales. Besides this, each sub-clade has different species of representative members, which differ in the number and types of present bones. lizard fish belong to the cetacean order of mammals, while the other sub-orders of mammals include elasmosaurians and ornithischians. All these differ in the presence of certain specific features, which allow them to differentiate among the other members of their respective orders.
In fact, many scientists believe that lizard fish are an evolved version of the true Ornithischians, which are prehistoric creatures that lived alongside the reptiles in prehistoric oceans. These creatures generally have elongated bodies and their arms and legs have evolved into fine-scale, prehensile objects. They are able to grasp, pick, lug and throw their tails and can even swim through the water using their sucking and trailing mouth parts. They can live on a variety of diets, depending on the availability of oxygen.
They feed on various prey animals including small crustaceans, insects and even other lizards. They hunt by smell, taste, sight or hearing, and their sense of hearing is more acute than that of the human nose. Their eyes are placed far apart, allowing them to see on cloudy days. The tail serves as a rudder when swimming, but some species use their tails as weapons when fighting with other fish species. All these attributes of lizard fish make them one of the most intriguing of all the freshwater species around the world.

It is believed by some experts that their ability to use the UV light to transform themselves into an animal almost similar to a reptile makes them unique. They can even breathe underwater, but in a very low-oxygen environment. This ability gives them the ability to live in extremely low oxygen environments, such as the ocean and freshwater. It is believed that the blue lizard is the most evolved of all the species of this fish family.
